A Recipe for Turmeric Tea

What is Turmeric Tea?

Turmeric tea has existed through the ages in Ayurvedic medicine. The drink is made with vegetable milk and spices and has natural anti-inflammatory properties.

What gives turmeric its anti-inflammatory effects?

Turmeric has extremely anti-inflammatory properties and has been used in Asia for a very long time as a natural remedy for a variety of complaints. The World Health Organization recommends turmeric for rheumatism because the spice has a strong anti-inflammatory effect.

Cinnamon and nutmeg are also included in the blend as they also have natural anti-inflammatory properties.

Ingredients

It is best to use organic ingredients when possible.

  • 350 ml vegetable milk (preferably almond, oat or coconut-rice milk)
  • 120 ml water (still mineral water)
  • 1 tbsp turmeric (powder)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • Freshly grated ginger
  • Pinch of Ceylon cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. Mix the turmeric and water in a saucepan and heat.
  2. Peel and grate the ginger. Add the grated ginger to the slowly thickening liquid.
  3. Add a pinch of nutmeg.
  4. Allow the liquid to simmer until it forms a paste.
  5. Heat the plant milk in a saucepan and stir the paste into the milk with a whisk.
  6. Add a pinch of cinnamon and coconut oil and simmer for two minutes, stirring constantly.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy.

Note: If the flavour is too strong, use a little less of the paste next time. You can also use more vegetable milk to thin the drink.
