L-Carnitine is a vitamin-like, chemical substance that is formed from the amino acids methionine and lysine in the liver, testes and kidneys. It can be absorbed through the consumption of meat, especially red meat. L-Carnitine assists in the transport of active fatty acids in cells. What is so special about this: long-chained fatty acids bound to L-Carnitine can be transported through the cell walls of the mitochondria.
